WI State Fair Open Poultry

For those who are interested, the Wisconsin State Fair Open Poultry Show online entry deadline is June 24th.You can find more information here. The show will take place at the same time as Junior Rabbits.

Unlike the Junior WI State Fair Poultry Show (for which the entry deadline has passed), the Open Show can be entered by anyone, youth or adult. You don’t even have to live in Wisconsin. Youth exhibitors who show there can earn lots of High Point Exhibitor points, as well as bring home cash prizes and other awards, like plaques or banners. The Wisconsin State Fair Open Poultry Show is one of the only poultry shows occurring this year in Wisconsin due to Avian Influenza concerns, so if you’re anxious to show birds, it might be a good show  choice.

WI Poultry Club Shows Cancelled; Fairs Continue Mostly as Planned

In a June 10, 2015 order, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection shutdown all poultry shows and swaps that are not a part of a county, district or state fair. The Summary Letter states:

1. Banning the movement of poultry to, or participation in, any swap meets or open shows in Wisconsin that are not held as part of a county, district, or state fair.

2. Prohibiting the movement of poultry to, or participation in, any county, district, or state fair, or open show or youth show held as part of a county, district, or state fair in Wisconsin, unless the exhibitor provides and the organizer obtains, reviews and maintains for one year, and makes available to the department all of the following information:

a. The exhibitor’s name, address, and phone number.

b. If the poultry were kept in Wisconsin, or a state utilizing the federal premises identification system, address and premises code number of the location at which the poultry were kept by the exhibitor. If the poultry were kept outside of Wisconsin in a state that does not use the federal premises identification system, the state-issued location identification number of the location at which the poultry were kept by the exhibitor.

c. Certification from the exhibitor that within 10 calendar days immediately prior to moving the poultry to the event there have been no poultry mortalities on the premises where the poultry were kept. Poultry mortalities caused by intentional slaughter, predator or accident do not apply.

More information can be found here.

Note that poultry exhibitions at county, district and state fairs will continue
with the additional documentation requirements.

WJPA Educational Poster Contest Information

For youth who are interested, this year’s WJPA poster contest entry form and guidelines are now available on the website. You can find the poster contest information in both the Forms section and the Youth Contests section.

This is the second year that the WJPA is hosting an educational poster contest. Last year’s contest was a great success, so I encourage everyone to start thinking of some fun, poultry-related topics to make a poster on!

Also, just a reminder: If you’re planning on attending the 2015 WJPA picnic, you need to reserve “tickets” here by June 22nd. The picnic should be very fun and educational, so if you can attend, I definitely recommend it.
