Any 4-H member can compete on a team in either the Junior division (under 14 years old) or the Senior division (14-18 years old). The competition will occur at the Wisconsin International Poultry Show, with the winning senior team going on to the national quiz bowl in Louisville, Kentucky.
The WJPA picnic will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017, at David Laatsch’s residence in Beaver Dam, WI. Events will include a farm tour, WJPA meeting, lunch, and a WIPC meeting. Youth are highly encouraged to attend, as it should be an educational, fun day.
For planning purposes, please inform Barb Gromacki by Monday, June 26 indicating the number from your family attending. More information can be found here: WJPA Picnic and Summer Education Information (PDF). All are welcome.
Would you or your 4-H group like to promote your favorite breed or variety by sponsoring an award at the Wisconsin International Youth Show? Show dates are September 23-24, 2017, at Portage, WI. Sponsors can be listed in the show’s premium book and you can personally present the award if you wish.
If interested, you can find the Sponsorship Form here, or on the Forms page.
The deadline for officer applications, November 30th, is approaching. If interested in running for any WJPA officer position (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian), please contact Mrs. Gromacki by mail at 27225, Ketterhagen Rd., Burlington, WI 53105. Officers serve a 2 year term.
The Wisconsin Bird and Game Breeders Association is offering grant money to youth age 12 to 17 for use in projects involving “the propagation of poultry, gamebirds, game animals, rabbits or waterfowl.” More information can be found here: WBGBA Youth Grant Application and Information
One of the WJPA’s members, Lauren Thompson, received this grant in the past. It is a great opportunity that I would definitely encourage members to apply for if they have suitable projects in mind. The deadline is January 1st, 2017.
Any youth interested in running for a WJPA officer position needs to write a brief (1 paragraph) officer statement and submit it by November 30th to:
27225 Ketterhagen Rd.,
Burlington, WI 53105
The statement should include an introduction and an explanation of why you would be a good choice for a certain office(s). The available offices are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Historian(s). All offices are two-year terms. I highly encourage serving as a WJPA officer, as it is a great leadership opportunity that will also help keep the WJPA a primarily youth-run organization.
To all youth interested in entering the Wisconsin International Poultry Show (WIPS): the entry postmark deadline is September 13th. Late entries won’t be accepted, so evaluate your birds, fill out an entry form, and enter soon. The WIPS will be held September 24th to 25th in Portage, Wisconsin. It is a large, youth-friendly show that is definitely worth attending.
Show set-up for the WIPS will occur on Sunday, September 18th, from roughly 9:00am to 3:00 pm. Any help is greatly appreciated. Lunch will be provided.
The Coulee Region Poultry Show will be held June 4, 2016 in Galesville, Wisconsin. The entry deadline is May 16th.
